CONTRIBUTE TO THE BOUCHER FOREST FOUNDATION
The Boucher Forest Foundation , a non-profit organization that since 2007 has been working to protect the Boucher Forest, is launching a fundraising campaign and needs your support.
The Boucher forest covers 750 acres and is located in the sector of Aylmer. Its great ecological value has been recognized and its economic potential in environmental goods and services in the region is equivalent to $ 6,000,000 annually. Your contribution would help to turn the Boucher Forest regional tourist and recreational project into reality. The first step in this process and in the conservation of the Forest is the acquisition of the whole Forest. Furthermore with 88% of the population of Gatineau in favour of conserving the forest, the City of Gatineau has committed itself to protecting the forest and has already acquired more than 50 % of the area covered by the forest.
Your contribution would also help us to continue organizing activities that raise awareness of the conservation of the Boucher Forest. As an example, at the bioblitz, which was held in June of last year, many volunteer scientists over a period of 24 hours listed more than 300 plant and animal species. During the same period many citizens were also able to participate in public guided tours. The Foundation also organizes a “Clean-up” every year. Over the last 4 years, the public, including some schools in the region, has removed 17 tons of garbage from the Boucher Forest. In addition to those activities, the Foundation is currently planning other original projects, to be launched in the upcoming year.
Finally, your financial support would contribute significantly to a tourist and recreational project that brings people together, contributes to the preservation of the forest, and that would boost the region’s economy.
